Retrofret Stock # 4561. Sho-Bud Maverick Model Pedal Steel Electric Guitar, c. 1980's, made in Nashville, TN, serial # 16009, woodgrain vinyl finish, maple body, molded plastic fingerboard, original black hard shell case. Sho-Bud's Maverick was intended as a professional-grade pedal steel for the serious student or working player on a budget. Like all of the original Sho-Bud products this guitar is nicely made and neatly designed. The company was originally the brainchild of top steelers Shot Jackson and Buddy Emmons and in many ways was a continuation of the Bigsby tradition, Paul Bigsby having sold his company in 1965 and died not long after. The Maverick was the simplest model offered and has ten strings, three pedals and one lever, with roller nut and bridge. This later example features an unusual burl woodgrain vinyl finish on the body. The maple body has a cast metal tuner assembly with the Sho-Bud logo and an enameled molded plastic fingerboard with the traditional Sho-Bud gambler's (heart, spade, clover and diamond) motif. This is a good-sounding, simple steel perfect to learn pedal techniques but solid and good-sounding enough to be an excellent performance instrument for the beginner/intermediate player.Overall length is 33 7/8 in. (86 cm.), 7 in. (17.8 cm.) width, and 3 in. (7.6 cm.) deep. Scale length is 23 1/2 in. (597 mm.). Width of nut is 3 1/2 in. (89 mm.). Appears all original and in very good playing condition. General light wear overall but no damage or repairs, ready to gig with the original HSC. Excellent Condition.
