Up for sale, a 1960 Silvertone Stratotone Mars Model 1421 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Crafted by Harmony in the USA, this unique version of the H46 Stratotone Mars was made exclusively for the Sears company, under their house brand, "Silvertone," and comes in an uncommon Sunburst finish! 100% original aside from a new three-way pickup selector switch (original also included) and switch tip, this fully hollow and early Silvertone model has the same body and neck as the more common H49 Stratotone Jupiter, yet the Mars boasts a pair of "Hershey Bar" pickups (like the highly sought after Harmony H44 model).

The tone is very sweet and balanced, with great clarity on complex chord voicings and a roundness and complexity to the sound of lead lines. The bridge pickup can snap and twang with the best without being brittle or thin, and the neck pickup has absolutely huge low end, especially when you roll off the tone control, without sacrificing note definition. And at only 5lbs 2oz, this SIlvertone is featherweight and extremely easy on the back. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with fresh 10-46 strings, this Stratotone Mars is a great example of this classic Silvertone model.

The neck has a chunky C profile, with generous shoulders that are well rounded and fill the palm very comfortably. The neck depth and 1 11/16" nut width will be familiar to any lover of 1950's Gibsons and the original fretwire is intact. The slender frets are in truly excellent shape, with virtually no wear, well rounded crowns, and their full, original height. On the headstock, the original bone nut is intact, and the stock Waverly tuning machines turn smoothly with stock white buttons. There is a slight bend to the post on the D tuner, but it still does its job well. The "Silvertone" silkscreen on the face of the headstock is also clean and intact.

All of the electronics work as they should, and the harness is untouched aside from the new Switchcraft three-way pickup selector toggle. The Stackpole pots date to the 36th week of 1960, which corresponds with the clean Fall, 1960 factory date stamp visible inside the electronics route. The original brown cupcake knobs, carved Brazilian rosewood floating bridge, and chrome trapeze tailpiece are intact as well. There is a small repaired crack in the treble side wing of the saddle, which has been professionally addressed and is seen in the photos.

Cosmetically, this is a very clean and well cared for Silvertone, with a rich and unfaded original two-tone sunburst nitro lacquer finish. There are a few light scuffs on the back of the body, as well as a couple marks on the bass side lower bout of the top, and some faint, tiny finish chips along the binding near the rear strap button. As the photos can attest, this guitar has been lightly played and carefully stored over the decades to preserve its condition.

This vintage USA made 1960 Silvertone Stratotone Mars model 1421 model has been setup, restrung, and is ready to be played!

A vintage chipboard case is included.
