Most of the May Bell flat top guitars I've seen were small bodied instruments but this one has a full 15” lower bout. Found in the 1936 catalog on slingerlandguitars.com this guitar is listed as a May Bell style #6. The top, back and sides are solid birch, the neck maple and the board and bridge are rosewood. The neck has been reset and refretted and the bridge has been replaced. The tuners are also replacements, StewMac restoration tuners. The top is ladder braced and has two small hairline cracks repaired. The back and sides are crack free. The finish on the back, sides and neck is a little dinged up and chipped here and there, crazed throughout, but overall the guitar is cosmetically very good. There are two small cap impressions on the back of the neck, one behind the 5th fret position and the other behind the 8th. The guitar plays well with action set at 7/64” and 6/64” with saddle left to lower the action if desired. The guitar has a big open sound when played with a pick, robust enough to be strummed hard but responsive enough to be a satisfying finger picker. $775
