Presenting the all new Strymon Ultraviolet Vintage Vibe Pedal. When it’s right, the sound of a vintage vibe pedal can be magical, full of gooey swirls and low end that is thick enough to almost chew on when you dig in, especially when going into a slightly overdriven amp. It’s a sound that captivated players like Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, David Gilmour and Doyle Bramhall II, and it’s still highly sought after today. Up until now the best versions of these sounds have been large in size and expensive, but that has all changed now with the release of the new Ultraviolet pedal from Strymon. The UltraViolet is a hyper-accurate recreation of the classic vibe sound that began with the original Shin Ei Univibe® in the late ‘60s, but it goes far beyond those original units in flexibility. The team at Strymon have captured all of the critical component interdependencies of the original down to the tiniest nuance, but they’ve also innovated by adding a new Blend mode to the original Chorus (50/50) and Vibrato (100% wet) settings, to give you a 70/30 mix of dry and wet for a more subtle effect. They’ve also added three different Bias settings, allowing you to fundamentally change the throb and growl of the vibe sound to suit the needs of the music. It’s highly addicting! Key Features of the Ultraviolet at a Glance: Hyper-accurate recreation of the original ‘60s vibe sound popularized by Jimi Hendrix and others. Three operating modes: Chorus (50/50 mix), Vibrato (100% wet) and new Blend mode (70/30) Three different Bias settings for determining the center frequency of the sweep - Low, Mid and High. Controls for Speed, Intensity and Volume. TRS Stereo Input and Output jacks. USB-C for firmware updates, MIDI connectivity and future compatibility with our Nixie software. TRS MIDI/Expression jack for connecting to a TRS MIDI source or expression pedal. Full MIDI implementation and 300 preset slots. Premium discrete JFET analog input preamp. From Strymon about the development of the Ultraviolet: "We took a long time to study all of the interdependencies of the vintage circuit (light bulbs and photo-resistors alone create TONS of critical interactions that you have to account for), and solved for all of them before going a couple of steps further to make UltraViolet far more flexible than the original design. First, we’ve designed an additional operational mode - vintage vibes had a Chorus (50/50) and Vibrato (100% wet) mode, but UltraViolet goes one step further by adding a new Blend mode, with a dry/wet mix of 70/30 for a more subtle version of the effect. In addition to the wide tolerances of light bulbs and photo-resistors, vintage vibe units had an internal trimpot to set the single bias value, all of which contributed to pedals from the same year sounding vastly different from each other. So instead of a single/fixed bias value, we’ve given you three of our favorite settings on a top-panel switch. As a result you can get swirls that center around low, mid or high frequencies, making UltraViolet a seriously flexible pedal that is suitable for far more than just the classic Jimi Hendrix, Robin Trower, David Gilmour and Doyle Bramhall II tones you would expect. Add in all of the other features from the new smaller platform like USB-C, TRS MIDI, 300 presets, discrete JFET input preamp, rear-panel mono/stereo switch, TRS ins and outs and external tap tempo, and you have one seriously addictive vibe pedal that gooshes, throbs and swirls like the best versions ever created - all while getting sounds the originals couldn't give you."
