Description

From John Suhr is this incredible Collection Series Classic T that was built for the 2016 NAMM show. These Collection Series guitars are Suhr's equivalent of PRS' Private Stock instruments, with each built using exotic tonewoods, one-of-a-kind cosmetics and sparing no expense with their building methodologies. Each Suhr Collection Series guitar is a functional piece of luthier artwork.

This guitar is number 008 in the series and is built on a 24 fret, Classic T foundation. The body is chambered and made of highly figured Curly Swamp Ash. The very unique top is made of Mexican Kingwood, a relatively rare spieces of Rosewood (Dalbergia congestiflora) which is also known as "Camatillo." The body has scraped binding and comfort contours. The neck is made of 5A grade Birdseye Maple, with a Modern Elliptical neck shape (.80"-.85" with a bit more of the neck's mass on the bass side). The fretboard is made from a 3/32" slab of Mexican Kingwood with a 10"-14" compound radius, jumbo-size stainless steel frets, a 1.650" Tusq nut and Brass side dots, with a unique Suhr Koa inlay at the 12th fret. The electronics include two Thornbucker HB's with master volume, master tone and a five-way switch. All the hardware is gold finished. The tremolo bridge and locking tuners are by Gotoh. The trem and control cavity covers, the pickup covers, the control knobs, the switch tip, the tuner buttons and the neck joint screw inserts are all made of Mexican Kingwood.

While obviously packed with cosmetic and functional beauty, this guitar plays and sounds even better. I personally prefer relatively large neck shapes, but this elliptical neck feels terriffic. With the mass of the neck slightly favoring the bass side it feels bigger than it's depth measurements would suggest. The fret work is amazing and the playability of this guitar is as good as it gets. The electronics give this guitar an amazing tone and the five way switch allows this guitar to give you any tone you need. The extremely dense tone woods used on this guitar make it a bit heavy for a Tele (8.75 lbs.), but also give it an incredible voice. Please check out the brief sound sample provided. From humbucking to single coil tones, this guitar can do it all.

This guitar was collector owned and has seen very limited test play only. It could pass for new. The frets (Stainless Stee) are flawless as well. It comes in it's original G&G leather-like premium case, along with the wood certificate of authenticity, spec sheet, tools and fretboard protector.

This guitar originally listed for more than $7K. This mint/near mint example can be had for $2K less. Make this magnificent example of Suhr guitar art yours today.
