The Tausch 665 is a remarkable forward-leaning guitar design that still feels and looks right at home next to your Tele or Strat. Yet at a closer glance; is a truly well thought out, executed and unique instrument with a feature set all its own. Only a few of these gems are built each year, to the highest of standards in Germany by Luthier Rainer Tausch. The 665 is certainly influenced by Fullerton T-Style designs, though at a closer glance you will notice many departures that make this magnificent guitar what it is and truly stand out in the crowd.
Starting with the body it is semi-hollow with a solid center block that extends the entire length of its highly resonant Pearwood body. Pearwood has the sparkle and richness of Maple, while being lighter and less dense with a more rounded mid-range.
The neck has a scale of 665mm which equates to a 26 & 3/16” scale. While slightly longer than a std Fender scale length of 25 ½”, it is what makes the guitar feel, play and sound as extraordinary as it does. You are able to play throughout the entirety of the fingerboard without ever feeling cramped, if nobody were to mention the scale, it would be very hard to detect that it is longer than a Tele, as it just feels extremely comfortable, it feels right.
The fretwork is impeccable as is its setup.
One of our favorite parts about this guitar is that it feels and reacts like a bolt-on neck guitar with its quick and snappy response, but the set-neck adds a whole other dimension to its sophisticated tone. The pickups are much more clear and focused than most P-90’s, yes they are built by one of the finest; Haeussel In Germany but the scale once again plays a huge factor here, as they are more spread out than on a shorter scale instrument. This gives the pickups more clarity, sparkle and better note separation; especially when the two are mixed in the middle position. A very responsive Trem unit with a wooden sustain-block to add warmth to the tone and a beautiful Seafoam Green Finish with light aging, round out this astonishing build.
