Description

We don't stock 12-strings very often, but we could not pass on this recently consigned beauty. Offered is this one-of-a-kind Taylor 958 SB that was built to order in 2017.

This 958 is a Grand Symphony-sized instrument with a 16-1/2" wide lower bout, 14 frets free of the body and a 25-1/2" string scale. It is a big guitar, but certainly not the largest that Taylor makes. As the model number indicates, it is a 900 series 12 string. It has no cutaway and no (factory) electronics. It has a Sitka Spruce top with sunburst finish and Indian Rosewood for the back and sides. It utilizes Taylor's newer "Advanced Performance" bracing with hide glue. It was custom ordered with some unique cosmetic touches including the use of West African Ebony for the fretboard, arm rest, bridge, peghead overlay, rosette, binding and purfling. The addition of Koa, Paua pearl and MOP further enhance the trimming on this beautiful guitar. It has a tropical Mahogany neck with Taylor's sleek "Standard" profile. It has a 1-7/8" bone nut as is typical on 12 string instruments. It has a Micarta saddle and 2-1/4" string spacing. The tuners are gold Gotoh 510's. The original owner of this guitar opted for an LR Baggs Anthem pickup system, rather than Taylor's proprietary electronics which many players don't like anyway.

This guitar is big in size but it is HUGE in it's voice! While the included sound sample doesn't do this guitar's tone ample justice, trust me when I tell you that the sound of this guitar is incredible. It is loud, full and rich, everything that you want a 12 string acoustic to be, perfect when you want a Tom Petty or Roger McGuinn sound. As a Taylor, it also plays so much easier than almost any other 12 string available and the arm rest makes it more comfortable to play than it's body size might suggest.

Since it's delivery to the original owner in March, 2017 this guitar has seen only limited play and remains in near mint condition. I find no flaws of any significance and the frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original Taylor premium case, along with the spec sheet and my correspondence with Taylor confirming that this is a one-of-a-kind model.

When ordered in 2016, the original owner paid nearly $6K and a significant wait. Tax time forces it's sale now, so you can get this unique and lightly played instrument for substantially less. If you have been seeking to add a 12-string acoustic to your arsenal, I cannot imagine a finer piece than this one-of-a-kind Taylor. Make this beauty yours today!
