Vintage c1965 Teisco Del Ray ET-230 Sharkfin Guitar.

This guitar is in good condition, fully functional, cosmetically showing numerous nicks and marks about the body, some are through the finish. This kitschy early Japanese electric exudes personality and the cosmetic wear doesn’t detract from the “coolness” factor!
More importantly, this one is a player. Tone and feel.

The Teisco Single Coil Pickups are also outstanding; they're quite hot and drive an amp nicely.

Clean, they sound a lot like a surf pickup, driven hard they really come to life. The slider switches allow for on/off on each pickup and a solo/rhythm switch that engages a small-value cap to mellow the tone. They're wired out-of-phase in the "both on" position, which yields a sweet jangly tone. Like many Japanese guitars, the tone control works "backwards" from normal -- 0 is "wide open treble" while 10 is much darker. And in the rhythm selector position the tone control thins out the sound.

These Teiscos interestingly are quite well shielded. From the thick aluminum pickguard everything is properly grounded to it and the casings for the pickups themselves are rather thick and covered entirely on 5 sides. The whammy unit is also well-thought-out and has a pleasant, Bigsby-like action. Additional interesting features include the 6+2 headstock and zero fret.

This is a great early Japan electric; it’s got looks and sound and feel and funky kitsch!

Period correct possibly original hard-shell case included.

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
