Description

At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of Preston Thompson guitars. Located in Sisters, Ore., master luthier Preston Thompson is building exceptional handmade instruments inspired by iconic prewar models. In the 19th Century, tiny Size 2 Parlor guitars were common, but in a world dominated by dreadnoughts, their small, comfortable size—and the sweet, subtle tone they produce—inspire many players, across a variety of genres. Based on a 1892 Size 2 that Preston keeps in his personal collection, this Thompson Size 2 Parlor is one of the most fun guitars hanging on the wall. With a lower bout that measures just 12-1/4″ and an upper bout at merely 9,” this Size 2 Parlor produces surprising volume and projection for such a small body. Although Preston’s 19th Century Size 2 was built and braced for gut strings, this one has hybrid X bracing pattern that is very light, so the top can move very nicely. This also keeps the guitar lightweight, so paired with its small size, it’s the ultimate living room guitar. The all-mahogany construction gives it a dry, warm sound, but thanks to the light bracing, it remains responsive and dynamic. Like every Thompson guitar we’ve handled, this Size 2 Parlor is very hard to put down, and this model will surely become a classic in its own right.
