Description

I never thought I would come across a 335-style guitar that I liked as much as a Collings I-35, but the introduction of the Thorn Grantura changed that. Offered is a particularly fine and highly upgraded version of the Thorn Grantura, a 2015 Luthier's Spec model.

This drop-dead gorgeous semi-hollow, arch-top instrument has a 14.75" wide lower bout with a light weight center block and dual F-holes. It is made of figured Mahogany with a Mahogany set neck and is finished in a two-tone brown nitrocellulose burst finish. The neck has a medium/fat C-shape and the frets are 6150's, both of which feel like they came right off of a Collings I-35. The fretboard on this incredible example has been upgraded to Brazilian Rosewood. It has top-of-the-line cosmetics, with cream binding on the body, neck and headstock and fancy MOP fretboard inlays. The humbuckers are by Arcane which have a vintage output. While not currently installed, this guitar comes with a lovely tortoise pickguard with cream binding which I have set in place in a few of the photos. This Grantura has a total weight of just 7.3 pounds and is superbly balanced!

If you have ever played a Collings I-35 then you have a very good idea what this guitar plays and feels like. As good as the Collings is, however, it is a bit more mass-produced in it's feel and cannot match the one-off, low-volume build quality vibe that you get with this Grantura. The playability and setup are equal to the Collings as well. The tone too sounds like a Collings with Lollar low winds to my ears; just check out the provided sound sample.

This fabulous instrument is in equally fabulous condition with virtually no flaws of any significance and the frets are spotless. It comes in it's similarly mint TKL case with the certificate, the build sheet, the truss rod and bridge adjustment tools, strap lock hardware and the uninstalled pickguard.

A new example with these specs would cost you over $8K, but this near new beauty can be had for thousands less. Get yourself an incredible, one-of-a-kind semi-hollow electric with this fabulous Thorn Luthier's Spec Grantura. You will not be disappointed!
