1997 Tippin Dreadnought 41 style pearl quilted mahogany "The Tree" w/ohsc

397108...Built in 1997 for Frank Lucchesi (then owner of Lucchesi Vintage Instruments in the Berkshire region of MA), this exceptional Tippin dreadnought was made with quilted mahogany from a source that has come to be known simply as "the tree." This was an enormous mahogany tree cut in the 60s that produced some of the most highly figured and stable quilted mahogany ever cut for instrument building. Most folks in the guitar world have already encountered this wood, but you can read plenty about it online if you haven't. The back and sides show intense, broad quilt figure with a truly three-dimensional quality. The top is perhaps the highest grade Adirondack spruce top I've seen, not particularly narrow grained but nearly perfectly even grained throughout its entire width and so perfectly quartered that it shows exceptional medullary rays ("silking") throughout its entire length and width. The top has forward shifted/scalloped traditional Martin style X bracing. The top is bordered in style 40 type abalone inlay (including rosette) and the fret board and headstock have deco style pearl and abalone pattern inlays. The neck is mahogany, the fret board and bridge are both ebony. The scale length is 25.4" and the nut width is 1 23/32" with a 2 1/4" pin spacing. The neck has a subtle "V" profile, very comfortable. the action is set at 7/64" at the low E and 5/64 at the high E with plenty of saddle showing to lower the action if desired, this is with the neck adjusted with virtually no relief. The guitar is near-new in condition, it shows no dings or scrapes or signs of use or wear, no finish insults or wear to the frets. The only thing that prevents me from describing it as 'mint' is the presence of an under saddle pickup that was professionally installed at some point by the owner. Sounds simply spectacular whether finger picked or flat picked. Super responsive to a gentle touch when finger picked, articulate and assertive when flat picked, equally good at both. A truly exceptional guitar for the discerning player. Comes with the original hard case. $14,500
