For your consideration a 2016 TK Smith Vintage Modified Kay Crusader in a Natural gloss finish! TK grew up in Los Angles where he would watch his father tinker in their garage with different vehicles. His grandfather was a mechanic that ran his own auto repair shop, you could say working with his hands was in his blood. Over the first couple decades of his life he would go through many different occupations that would help him hone his skills as an elite fabricator and designer. At one point even being an “Imagineer” for Disney! Truly a fantastic craftsman capable of tackling just about any project thrown at him. It comes as no surprise that this Kay Crusader has become a completely different guitar after crossing his bench!

Specs! The body of this guitar is a Kay Crusader, the neck was made by TK Smith along with the pick ups & trem arm. All assembled by TK Smith. Nickel Vintage style tuners. Aluminum nut with a width of 1-11/16″. Five piece maple & walnut neck with a depth of .92″ at the first fret and 1.11″ at the twelfth fret. It has a 25.5″ scale length. Bound rosewood finger board with a 12″ radius. Block mother of pearl inlays. 19 vintage small frets in very good condition. Laminated spruce and maple body. Two TK Smith C.A.R pickups. Wired with 500k CTS. Aluminum bridge. Bigsby tremolo with a custom made TK Smith Chet arm. Custom made TK Smith pick guard with “J.L Dunn”. Comes with a custom TK Smith hand made hard shell case. Weighs 7 pounds and 2 ounces.

If you’re a guitar fanatic like us you’ll instantly recognize that TK is heavily influenced by Bigsby Electric Guitars. He makes the best repros of the original Bigsby pick ups. The headstock is based on the old Bigsby headstock. The whole concept of putting a new neck on an old guitar is inspired by Lefty Frizzells J-200 that Bigsby put a new neck on.

Truly a phenomenal build! TKs attention to detail is immaculate! The neck is extremely comfortable and plays fast, great for some swinging arpeggios! The pick ups are clear, warm, articulate and bright. The Bigsby feels great with his custom Chet arm. Love the positioning of the pick up selector. The body is super clean, its hard to believe it hasn’t been refinished. Acoustically the guitar has a nice low mids/bass thud perfect for boom-chick country pickin. Treble sings beautifully above the lower registers. Would make for a really cool country swing guitar as well! Stunning example of what TK Smith is capable of, this guitar is in a league of its own!
