We're excited to have our first Tom Anderson guitar in the shop! Tom is a legend in the boutique guitar world, known for making some of the most flawless, sophisticated guitars going - one look at his roster of "who's who" players is a testament to this fact.
Weighing in at 6lbs even, this Hollow T Classic Shorty is an incredibly lightweight, well-balanced guitar. It simply radiates quality from the moment you pick it up. The build is immaculate and just beckons you to dig in and get down to playing.
The satin finished, "even taper" neck feels wonderful. It sports a very slight V and is similar to an early/mid-60s Fender with regards to depth - this is the kind of neck that any player would be happy with. The flawless fretwork and short scale length deepen the effortless playing experience and the guitar has a slinky overall feel. Simply put? This guitar is a blast to play - we could find no fault with it.
Played acoustically, the T Classic has a very snappy, balanced voice. Tons of resonance, sustain, and projection is present even without the aid of an amp. Plugged in, a really cool, distinct voice emerges - one that covers quite a bit of ground thanks to the 5-way switch and fixed bridge. The "fixed" style bridge definitely pulls the guitar away from old-school Tele tones (Tele purists, you'll want to look elsewhere) but you can still get quite a bit of twang and snap out of it depending on your technique. In the bridge position, think Tele with richer, more forward mids - almost P90-ish.
While tough to fully convey in words, to our ears, this guitar mixes Tele-like twang with a Danelectro-meets-Strat hollow, bell-like chime. This is where the guitar's hollow construction really makes itself known. Each note has a snap / attack to it much like a great pedal compressor imparts. In short, balance is the word of the day here. No one frequency dominates so you're left with a very even, balanced sounding instrument. Players who really appreciate nuanced instruments will likely love what Tom's guitars have to offer.
