Retrofret Stock # 6758. Vega Little Wonder Model Guitar Banjo (1926), made in Boston, Mass., serial # 67413, natural varnish finish, laminated maple rim and neck, ebony fingerboard, original black hard shell case. A very nice example of a fairly rare Vega Little Wonder Banjo-Guitar. Although the least fancy instrument in the 1920's Vega line the Little Wonder is still a robust high-quality instrument, lacking only the fancier tone rings and bracket band of the more expensive White Lady and Tubaphone. This banjo features a heavy laminated maple rim and neck and very thick ebony fingerboard, simple sheathed brass wire tone ring and standard brackets mounted thru the rim. The neck has an ebony heelcap and headstock facing, bone nut and pearl dot inlay. The rim's bottom edge is bound in tortoise celluloid. These beautifully made Vegas are by most reckoning the best open back guitar-banjos ever built, and sound great for everything from New Orleans Jazz ("Play that thing, Mr. St Cyr!" - with Louis Armstrong's Hot Five Johnny St Cyr used a six-string Vega) to ragtime and on through Old-Time Country.Overall length is 36 in. (91.4 cm.), 10 7/8 in. (27.6 cm.) diameter head, and 2 9/16 in. (6.5 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.). Width of nut is 1 3/4 in. (44 mm.). Very nice overall with some mostly just some light finish and plating wear. This banjo remains all original including the the rim hardware, tailpiece, an old skin head, the non-geared friction banjo tuners and even the original maple bridge. The only really worn areas are spots of capo wear on the back of the neck around the first and third positions, and the lower "Cowboy chord" positions show some light divoting in the ebony fretboard. Like all these Vegas this is a truly excellent sounding and extremely solid banjo guitar. Includes a nice if somewhat battered OHSC. Excellent - Condition.
