This is a very art deco Vivi-Tone Acousti-Guitar made in c.1936 bearing serial # 625. A fabulous example of the interesting and innovative design elements of Lloyd Loar after he left Gibson in 1924. The guitar features an arched Spruce top, small carved soundholes beneath the floating bridge, recessed back with two “F” shaped sound holes, bound Ebony fingerboard with a “V” shaped Mahogany neck, really cool original molded tortoise celluloid pickgard and white veneered headstock w/a Vivi-Tone logo. Its original cast metal tailpiece has been replaced w/a Wartime Gibson type wooden & wire tailpiece. It’s sporting a set of original open back Grover tuners. Its Original label below its bridge soundholes reads Vivi-tone Guitar # 625 Manufactured by Vivi Tone Company Detriot, Michigan. What sets this example apart is that it has WBW binding on both the front & back of its body normally only having this on its front side which is quite rare & only seen on 1 other example. Its got a few minor repaired cracks & four unusual dowels on the back of its headstock under the finish from perhaps a store logo plate or period hanger hooks but there is no repairs hidden nor any structural issues. Its a pretty cool & a very innovative design by the ex-Gibson boss & will make a very nice addition to any serious guitar collection. Truly excellent overall & comes in a late model hard case.
