Up for sale, a 1964 Vox AC30/6 "Super Twin" head in excellent condition, recently serviced and in perfect working order! This well maintained and very original AC30 head sports original Woden transformers and NOS EL84 power tubes, delivering the power, detailed tube overdrive, and touch sensitive dynamic responsiveness for which these amps are known. The list of AC30 enthusiasts is endless, with a story that began with the Shadows and quickly grew to include players such as the Beatles, U2, Queen, the Rolling Stones and countless others. This amp delivers both the detailed cleans and midrange rich tube overdrive that are the hallmarks of the AC30 tone, not to mention providing fantastic vibrato and tremolo on the third pair of inputs!

This amp boasts a very original circuit, with original Woden transformers that date to August of 1962. The preamp has overhauled with largely new capacitors, and the parts used were of the highest quality, with a clear dedication to achieving exceptional tone while keeping the amp operating within original factory spec. The circuit also has two newer potentiometers. The chassis itself is in great shape, with a vibrant reddish copper faceplate that retains all of its lettering in addition to original chicken head knobs. The amp has a quad of vintage Pinnacle EL84 power tubes, which were manufactured in Japan. A wooden footswitch has been wired into the chassis in place of the original "egg" switch, and 8 and 16 ohm 1/4" outputs have been cleanly added to the back panel for ease of use. While this amp is a non-Top Boost model, the back panel is factory cut to accommodate a Top Boost mod if desired (hidden beneath the serial number plate as was the usual practice).

The serial/model # plaque on the back panel is original and of the very rare transitional plastic variety used briefly in the Spring of 1964, between more common runs of metal plaques. The serial number places the amp's production at roughly May of 1964, which is consistent with the original two pin corners, black basketweave tolex, large 1 1/2" rubber feet, and black plastic vents. In regards to the vents, the central vent is original, while the outer two are direct, drop-in replacements of the highest quality, manufactured by North Coast Music. It's quite impressive that all of the original plastic corners are present, and the piping on the head is clean and intact as well. The single handle is a modern Korg era replacement with large, block "VOX" lettering.

The smooth black bastketweave tolex shows only the lightest wear, and the original brown diamond grillcloth is also present, showing only moderate wear, especially given the fragility of the cloth. The chassis has been shifted slightly towards the right in terms of placement, as two of the original holes that mount from the back panel to the chassis stripped out and two new (non-visible) holes were added adjacent to the originals so that the chassis would mount securely to the back panel.

This is a clean, well maintained and exceptional sounding vintage copper top JMI era VOX AC30 "Super Twin" head!
