Retrofret Stock # 4546. Vox Spitfire Model Solid Body Electric Guitar (1965), made in Italy, serial # 238918, sunburst polyester finish, pine body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard, original grey hard shell case. Even with the same electronics and hardware as the infamous Phantom and "teardrop" guitars, the 1960's Vox Spitfire has the same sound but in a visually different stylistic groove! A fairly obvious Stratocaster knockoff, the Spitfire is the Italian made descendant of the Soundcaster, Super Ace and Consort models built at Dartford, Kent in the earlier '60's. This guitar shares its mutant-Fender body with the Tempest XII 12-string, and features the typical Vox pickups, vibrato unit and fancy covered bridge with spring-action mute assembly. The spitfire was not one of Vox's budget models and is a nicely-made instrument from Eko's Recanti, Italy factory. While perhaps not Vox's most stylish guitar, the Spitfire is a fun 60's solidbody at a very affordable price.Overall length is 38 1/2 in. (97.8 cm.), 12 3/4 in. (32.4 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 5/8 in. (4.1 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 in. (635 mm.). Width of nut is 1 11/16 in. (43 mm.). 100% original, a few minor finish scrapes and a couple of small repaired cracks on the pickguard just at screw holes near neck. Pickguard has "smoked" (darkened) a bit over time but is less shrunken than mos, otherwise this guitar appears as it was built in 1965 with very lilttle use. The bridge still has the oft-missing original mute and cover. Simply a super nice example, with an excellent original Vox HSC. Excellent + Condition.
