This is a Steven Warshaw classical with serial number 6 made in Cambridge MA in 1978. Mr. Warshaw is a now-retired well-known East Coast luthier and repair person who worked in many high profile dealers' and builders' shops like Matt Umanov, Dana Bourgeois and Michael Gurian. It is beautifully constructed of straight-grain Amazon rosewood and European spruce, according to Mr. Warshaw (with whom we have corresponded). The ebony fretboard attached to the solid cedar neck. It has a 26 1/16” (662 mm) scale length and is 2” wide at the nut. This was one of a set of 4 he built together, the first for Guy Van Duser. They were all externally copies of a '54 Barbero classical Steven owned and later sold to Mr. Van Duser. Internal bracing is more like a Hauser, according to Steven. It has an elephant ivory nut & saddle, so no international exports. The finish is very thin lacquer. The tuners are gold Schaller Hauser style. It is in very good condition and has no cracks or repairs. There are minor finish blemishes consistent with 40 years of playing and a notable scratch on the upper bout on the bass side near the rim. The workmanship and all parts used are of the highest quality. It has a double arched 5 ply hard case, most likely a Harptone.
