Offered for sale;

Vintage c1900 Washburn Neapolitan Bowlback Mandolin Style 122 - Style 130 Serial number A16462.

This mandolin is in very good condition. There is a very old split in the ebony fretboard from the tenth fret to the end. Due to the inner fabric lining (not found on all bowl back mandolins) the back staves are perfectly intact.

This is a bit fancier than other Style 122s. Could be a Style 130.

Featuring an engraved “Crown” tail piece, abalone inlays, Brazilian rosewood skirt and 15 staves “rope” binding and rosette, white binding where the sides curve around to meet the bowl back.

An article in the Musical Courier states that Lyon & Healy began manufacturing instruments in 1885. Clearly, Lyon & Healy was making fretted string instruments in the 1880s, with Washburn (guitars, mandolins, banjos, and zithers) as their premier line.

We here at Imperial Guitar have done a bit of research into the Washburn models produced in this time frame, we’re not quite sure exactly what model this is, 1897? 122? We have seen images of this same configuration, the particular fretboard inlays and bindings, however the mando’s we found that exhibited all these features we not clearly identified by model number. Washburn serial number information from this era is scant.

Good solid vintage bowlback, plays and sounds great!

Fully functional original leather case has new leather strap buckles.
