At Telluride Music Co., we are honored to be an Authorized Dealer of Waterloo guitars. Handmade alongside the Collings line in Austin, Texas, Waterloo guitars capture the unique voice and spirit of the finest-sounding—but lower-priced—depression era guitars. The Waterloo WL-JK Jumbo King is based on the jumbo body built by Regal for the Montgomery Ward catalog. The original was designed in the era before pickups, so it needed to be loud and capable of cutting through the mix at radio studios as well as juke joints. From the first chord, it’s clear the WL-JK lives up to that tradition 100%. Aided by a 15-3/4″-wide spruce top and 5″ overall body depth, this guitar packs powerful midrange and impressive volume across board. Nevertheless, its relatively tight waist keeps it punchy and dynamic as it projects clearly and boldly. Overall, its tone remains warm and woody—to be expected from the Mahogany back and sides. Like all Waterloo guitars, the WL-JK feels impossibly light when you pick it up, and its hand-rubbed semi-gloss lacquer finish is beautiful and provides the appropriate depression-era vibe. The WL-JK features a 25-1/2″ scale length and a 1-3/4″ nut width. With only a moderate V neck profile, the WL-JK has a smoother, more inviting feel than many of the earlier Waterloo models, which have severe deep V profiles. The Waterloo WL-JK Jumbo King is an impressive addition to a very cool line of guitars. This one nails the mojo, but it packs the tone and feel to back it up.
