Vintage Webster Chicago 166-1 Serial # 375-123.

This amp is in good condition, fully functional, cosmetically showing scuffs and marks and patina abounding.

There are some articles written going in depth about these little beauties, without repeating verbatim here’s the basic story: The Webster Chicago 166-1 amps, many of which were originally paired with a Webcor 125 Diskchanger for dance halls, schools, churches, and auctions. Eventually 166-1 became popular with Chicago harp players and blues guitarists.

Controls: Tone (on/off) — Phono — Micro.

The signal which is controlled by the Micro volume goes through the preamp and power amp, making this channel the most powerful. This is where the amp really cuts loose. The 1/4 input jack added on the back is parallel with the 3 conductor Input jack (to the right of the tone control) is for this channel.

The signal which is controlled by the Phono volume bypasses the 6AT6 pre-amp and goes straight to the phase inverter and 6V6 power tubes, allowing full bodied tone at lower volumes. However, it is quite mild mannered. The permanent cable terminating with the ¼” phone plug is for this channel.

Both inputs are in phase and you can use a Y cable for blending channels.

Utilizing one 6AT6 and one 12AX7 in the preamp, two 6V6 output tubes, and a 5Y3 rectifier tube. Fender’s tweed Harvard combo of 1955-’61 uses the same tube configuration.

The Webster was out several years before the 1x10″ Harvard from Fender, if you compare the Webster-Chicago’s schematic, it is quite different from the Harvard or any other conventional guitar amp of the era.

This is a very cool vintage amp, sounds great for harp and guitar!

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
