1887年創業、1897年に設立と既に100年以上に渡る歴史を持つ国内トップブランドYAMAHA。
ボディシェイプの変革から長らく支えてきた歴史の重みを感じさせるSBシリーズから、新たにラインナップに加わったBroad Bassシリーズは、SBシリーズの持つJBスタイルのイメージとは違って、PBサウンドの指向を持つシリーズです。SBシリーズは1982年に生産終了となり、代わってYAMAHAの代表作としてBBシリーズが歴史を刻んでいきます。
スルーネック構造を採用したBB1200は発売当初、最高級モデルとしてラインナップされていました。アルダー、メイプル、マホガニーを使用したボディにメイプル/マホガニー5ピースネック、エボニー指板という構成となっています。
大きな特徴であるスプリットタイプのピックアップをリバースレイアウトでマウントし、低音域のタイトさと高音域の太さ・柔らかさを押し出しています。
