Around 1965, the development of Yamaha electric guitars began. The late Genichi Kawakami, the president of Yamaha at the time, ordered the company to produce all original electric guitars. The SG2000 was the flagship of the symmetric SG models released in July 1976. This model follows Carlos Santana's model SG175B Budda, which was released before. It is a direct embodiment of Carlos Santana's sustain-rich guitars with a through-neck body, a very labor-intensive T-cross one-piece construction with maple on the top, and a sustain block under the bridge. The SG is the linchpin of the SG models that followed, and even today it is a world-class electric guitar that Japan is proud of, loved by people from all over the world.
