SN: 6974. Fifteen year old Collings D2HV BaaaA made with book matched master-grade Brazilian rosewood (AAA-rated) and Adirondack spruce top. The quality of the materials harkens back to an earlier age – notably the wartime Martins – where the mostly tight grains were punctuated by a dark stripe. The grain is not as straight as the golden era examples but head and shoulders above most of what’s available today. The guitar is finished with 28-style appointments; ivoroid binding with herringbone trim, tortoise-style pick guard, multi-ring rosette, zigzag center strip on the back, ivoroid cap on the neck heel, ebony fretboard with diamonds and snowflakes, belly down ebony bridge. It's beautifully made. As collectable as this instrument will likely be, it was made to be played. The neck, nut, scale length, and string spacing are excellent copies of the prewar ‘bones. It’s an acoustic powerhouse with an incisive bass and complex mids. There is fantastic note separation and just enough chordal overtones when played as a rhythm guitar. It’s a natural for flatpicking leads but it is such fun to play it invites noodling in all styles. The condition is near mint with some very light play wear on the pickguard. Comes with its original top quality TKL case.
