SN 79480 – NEW PRICE. This exquisite consignment instrument is the cleanest prewar dreadnought I’ve ever had in the shop – and the most original. The 1941 Martins were the highest expression of the post-1938 years, employing the best materials available before the wartime shortages. This one has the best Adirondack with thin straight grain and the best “modified V” design for the 1 11/16” neck with T-bar. The appointments are ebony. The finish is 100% original and in excellent condition except for a small area of wear on the back. This is the earliest I’ve seen the flat back Klusons with the embossing. At 12:1 ratio they work well and are very clean except for some tarnish on one button. Needless to say, it is crack free with just the slightest signs of play wear. The list of repairs is quite small – a neck set and refret by TJ Thompson, one replaced bridge pin, modern strap button properly installed on the treble side of the heel, and lightly sanded bridge. The voice is startlingly good – great volume, clarity, articulation and chordal blooming. It comes with the original purple lined case with the double diamonds on the string box. If shipped, I will use a Hoffee case (which can be purchased or returned) and ship the original case later. A superb example, perhaps the best of its era.
