This 1967 Guild Starfire V serial number EN1089 is in very good condition. The frets are also in very good condition and this is a great playing guitar.
The headstock has had a pro repair and there has been a repair at the tailpiece as well (cosmetically not as professional). The repairs were done before we got the guitar and are structurally sound. There are many nicks and chips about the body and volumes of "patina" are present.
The Starfire V is a double cutaway semi-hollow instrument reminiscent of Gibson's ES-335 series but with many subtle and distinctly Guild touches. Like the ES-335, the Starfire V has a solid block running through the center of the double-cutaway thin hollow body, cutting down on feedback and giving the guitar a brighter tone. The wiring is also basically Gibson-like with the useful addition of a master volume knob just behind the selector switch.
Construction features a laminated maple body with a laminated mahogany neck and rosewood fingerboard . The Guild Bigsby tailpiece (with a roller bar to provide improved tension over the saddle), Bigsby aluminum bridge are stock. The smaller (but not “mini”) mid-1960's Guild HB-1 Humbucking pickups have a nice chime that you just don’t get from a large humbucker. The thinline body has a sunburst lacquer finish and is triple bound top and back. The bound fingerboard has pearloid block markers The plastic-faced headstock carries the Guild "Chesterfield" inlay and stock Grover Rotomatic tuners. The scale length is 24.75" with a nut width of 1 5/8",
The Starfire has long been a favorite among players of many styles, and is particularly well thought of as an electric blues instrument. Vintage Starfires remain one of the most comparatively affordable classic American guitars.
This 1967 Starfire, made in Hoboken NJ, has been part of Our Founder’s personal "keep at home" collection for the past year or so. It's been greatly enjoyed and we're going to miss it when it's gone.
