Description

Offered for sale;

Used 1977 Ibanez 2470 P AV serial number A781272.

This guitar is in very good condition. The neck and frets are fine. Cosmetically showing playing time but not abuse. It seems this guitar was born with the mini humbucker attached at the end of the fretboard as they often are. There are the telltale empty screw holes on either side of the fretboard to prove it. Then, for some reason someone thought it better to go through the trouble of mounting the pickup to the pick guard. We can’t tell if the pickup is the original Super 70. We’re guessing not. There is no telltale sign that a mount-it-to-the-neck bracket was removed nor the mount-it-to-the-pickguard bracket was added.

In the early 70's, Ibanez set out to make high-precision replicas of Gibson's top-end instruments. These copies were so good that Gibson sued to stop production. Known as 'lawsuit' models, these guitars are now coveted for their quality and faithfulness to the originals.

There were several models of “Johnny Smith” inspired instruments, most notedly the 2460 and 2461, and the 2470 and 2471. The label inside of this guitar identifies it as a 2470 P AV, the AV denotes Antique Violin finish.

The primary differences between the 2460 and the 2470 are the 2460 has a laminated spruce top and a 24 ¾” scale while the 2470 has a carved spruce top and a 25 ½” scale length.

The other primary variation is the pickups, being either directly mounted to the top or mounted to the end of the neck or attached to the pick guard.

These guitars are a favorite of working musicians who prefer to leave their expensive originals at home, and of collectors who want to invest in a quality collectable archtop without the high-end price tag.

Own a beautiful Ibanez that can stand on its own merits as a great instrument!

Original hard-shell case included.

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.

This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.

*It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.

If you prefer your item to be sent without a required signature Imperial Guitar and the selected carrier can no longer be responsible for the security of the package once it has been delivered.
