Description

Offered for sale; 1972 LoPrinzi LR-20 serial number 588.

This early LoPrinzi is in fair condition.

Featuring a dreadnought style body with a spruce top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, mahogany neck with a bound ebony fretboard and ebony bridge. The scale length is 25.5” and the nut width is 1.75” with a 7.5” radius. Gold Grover tuners are fitted. These early instruments were handmade and the label inside the sound hole is signed by A.LoPrinzi.

At some point in its life someone put in a pickup and preamp. The pickup and preamp were then removed and the holes were surface-patched with rosewood. There are several repaired cracks and some “nicks and chips”. This guitar still has a lot of tone.

Augustino LoPrinzi began the legacy as a barber, after little success learning to play instruments, he began disassembling and reassembling instruments learning how they were put together. At one point he was getting more and more work for repairs and building guitars than cutting hair.  So after barbering for 22 years, he quit.  It was 1969.  Everyone thought he was crazy, but his wife, parents and brothers had faith in him.  By 1972 he and his brother, Thomas, founded the LoPrinzi Guitar Company in New Jersey.  They started to sell stock in the company and soon had a successful business going with 17 employees. The rest of the story is interesting including selling the company to a large corporation and starting over again.

This is an interesting guitar that sounds quite good and is not an everyday find.

Hard shell case included.

***Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
***This is a specific item that is also being offered for sale in our brick & mortar location. It is possible that it has just been sold. Please ask if it is still available before purchasing.
***It is our policy to require a signature on delivery of all musical instruments. Please let us know if you prefer no signature required when ordering or we will automatically require a signature.
