Offered for sale:
Used Roland RSS PH-830 Studio Phaser serial number 720114.
This effects unit is in good condition, fully functional, cosmetically showing scratches and marks from installation and removal from racks throughput the years.
The PH-830 stereo analog phase shifter, part of “Roland’s Studio System” (RSS). These were a collection of several heavy-duty rackmount units including the RV-800 spring reverb and two graphic equalizers. All were beefy and bulletproof. The 1979 Roland price list price published the PH-830 at $795.00. These RSS units are rarely found on the used market.
The PH-830 is considered by some to be an analog “reference phaser,” with a classic phasing tone, low distortion and smooth sweeps. The stereo signal path consists of two eight stage phase shifters in parallel, with independent inputs, outputs, and CV inputs. Each channel has controls for intensity (LFO depth), shift frequency (30 Hz – 10 kHz), and resonance (feedback). If the intensity controls are set to 0, the shift frequency controls can be used to manually set the phase shift for each channel.
As the intensity controls are turned up, both channels are modulated by a single LFO, although an invert switch inverts the phase of the LFO waveform on the second channel, for panning stereo phasing effects. The PH-830’s single LFO is well specified, with a choice of sine, triangle, and sawtooth waveforms, and rates from 1 cycle per minute up to 10 Hz. There is also an LFO trigger (sync) input.
This Roland unit very solid built, with large circuit boards and quality components. The PH-830 sounds exceptional, while perhaps not as over-the-top as some phasers, the PH-830’s transparent yet strong sound allows it to be used in a wider range of applications
“We test every effects unit when we buy it and bring it up to our standards before we offer it for sale. Then we burn it in for an hour or so before we ship so that there are no surprises.”

*Please note: we do our best giving descriptions of used pieces. We have found it impossible to describe every mark on an instrument or amp that is not in the "mint" category. Also, what's important to you may not be important to someone else. For example, you may say, "I don't care what it looks like as long as it plays or sounds well." Another person may say, "Body cosmetics are very important to me so tell me about every scratch, nick and blemish." So, please ask the questions that are most important to you. If you ask they will be answered. They are free and there's no limit. Additional photos can also be made available.
