Description

Great sounding guitar from the workbench of Bagnasco & Casati. These Italian small batch builders are inspired by the great American acoustics of the 20th Century particularly pre-WWII Martins and wartime Gibsons. They are known for “big tone and big necks” as well as their meticulous craftsmanship using authentic glues, finishes and tonewoods. Based on customer feedback (and the feedback of dealers like me), their newer neck profiles have become quite comfortable without sacrificing authenticity, volume or tone. Here we have a repro of a shade top 1936 Martin D-18 with all the signature features that came with that iconic guitar – forward-X scalloped bracing, ebony fretboard and bridge, rosewood headstock overlay, mahogany back and sides hot hide glue construction, and full-moon harvested Alpine spruce, the European equivalent of Adirondack. I have modified this guitar slightly in that I’ve given it a complete set up for medium gauge strings. They ship with lights but IMHO this guitar is better suited for mediums. The sound profile is more cutting and aggressive with mediums and the tension is better for the flatpicker. Consequently, the response to a pick is tremendous. The tone has sustain and nuance and gets better with every jam. On consignment.
