Description

SN 2102: Friends, this reimagined OM-28 is an exciting new release from Italian builders Bagnasco & Casati of Savona Italy. It’s built in the "early" style, as found over the 1929 - 1930 period. It sports a moon logged red spruce (picea abies) top, Brazilian rosewood back and sides, Honduran mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard with "short pattern" diamond and squares inlays, ebony pyramid bridge with through saddle, bar frets, Rickard 10:1 Cyclone banjo tuners and small teardrop guard. The shade top comes with their "thin skin" pure nitrocellulose finish, which is here seen in the "vintage gloss" version. The vintage gloss is even thinner than their standard "thin skin" and makes for a very organic feeling guitar with quick response, resonance and bold projection. Unique to this guitar is the "unscraped" herringbone detail in which the herringbone is underneath the finish rather than taped off or scraped off. It’s a subtle difference that creates a dark outline for the amber top and adds a unique look to the herringbone. The neck is certainly very close to an early OM (I’ve just recently played an early 1930) with a soft V, narrower shoulders and full 1-3/4” at the nut. It’s a very comfortable finger picker with a lively touch. Additional work in Seattle includes setup by Mark Tossman, installation of an ivory nut and saddle and detailing of the frets and bridge. It comes with a molded plastic case that has a suspension system rather than padding.
