SN: 625. Like a supernova, the star that is Blazer & Henkes is shining brightest just before the end. Here is another powerhouse instrument from my final order placed 4-5 years ago. This unique custom build combines the aesthetics of the 1933 D-28 shade top owned at one time by Norman Blake (54950) with the warmth of mahogany back and sides. What a superstar this one is. The full moon harvested Alpine Spruce top is shaded dark in “model 1932” style and trimmed with herringbone, a vintage style pickguard and black and white rosette. Twelve fret neck with slotted headstock, 1-3/4” nut, volute, ebony board with inlays of snowflakes and diamonds. Book matched mahogany back and sides separated by zig-zag back strip. It is a giant super wolf moon of a guitar with its elongated body, scalloped bracing, small maple bridge plate, wide waist and nearly 5” depth. The exquisite workmanship is a testament to Willi and Rudi’s legacy and their love of prewar instruments.

The tone is big and very warm with overtones throughout and it’s (obviously) still developing. The 12-fret neck is full but comfortable and all notes feel very close and accessible – especially for a long scale guitar. The generous string spacing makes for lovely fingerpicking, crosspicking or a combination of both. It is super fun to play and will turn heads at every jam. It’s currently set up with medium action with plenty of saddle for adjustment. Comes with a 5-ply TKL-like wood case but I have a new second-generation Hoffee for a 12-fret dread that I can offer at a nice price.
