SN: 63057: ON HOLD! This sweet sounding and playing 000-18 has just come into the shop on a trade. They were made in small numbers in the 1930s, only 280 made in 1936, and typically went home in softshell cases. Finding a crack free and unmodified example like this one is getting more and more difficult. They are prized for the open woody sound and lovely round bass and mids and this one is no exception. The Adi top looks fresh and bright with light to moderate playwear, most notably under the strings from a thumb pick, with faux tortoise pickguard. Mahogany back, sides, and neck. Plain dot fretboard markers, original Grover G-98 tuners, Martin decal on the headstock, rosewood fretboard and bridge typical of late ’35 and ’36 18-series guitars. The neck angle is perfect, likely a recent neck reset. Original frets are showing some wear but plenty of life left. The 1 ¾” nut looks original and a new correct height saddle seems to be the only modification. Likely the original pins as well. Clearly this is a played instrument with the occasional scratch and scrape. This is a fine example that will appeal to players and collectors alike. Ships with a newish Canadian-made hardshell case.
