Description

SN: 97969. Welcome return of a super-fine postwar herringbone featuring tons of tone, gorgeous straight grain Brazilian, and a perfect set-up. This is one of only 425 made in the final full year for the herringbone trim, first full year for the Sitka top, and second year for the tapered bracing. The BRW maintains the same high quality as Martin’s prewar builds. Nut width is 1-11/16ths with a 2-1/4 string spacing at the bridge. Neck profile is the modified V with a hefty feel, reinforced with a T-Bar. Ebony fretboard with large dot position markers and forgery-quality ebony repro bridge. Original bridge pins and end pin, original faux tortoise pickguard with the reddish tint typical of the period, bound top and back with zigzag back strip. Original “fleur de lis” tuners work well. Inside the guitar is quite clean with everything as it should be including the original bridge plate. Recent neck set, refret and setup by Mark Tossman has this guitar in top playing condition. It’s quite clean with a little belt buckle wear on the back, some strumming wear east of the fretboard and a small amount of finish loss. The top nonetheless is quite bright and fresh looking. There are no cracks, capo gouges, or dingers – just a little honest playwear. The tone is focused, particularly on the bass end, powerful mid-range and the volume these are famous for. It is a fabulous flat picker. The case is a Lifton most likely purchased at the same time as the guitar. Overall, a terrific guitar I’m happy to see return and one I’ll be sorry to part with.
