FON: U 1861-23. Here’s a sweet rig to ride into the sunset; a 1957 Gibson Country Western Model in fine original condition. The Country Western Model is the blond “pardner” of the Gibson Southern Jumbo with the same appointments – parallelogram position markets, one-point pick guard, belly up bridge, torch inlay, and logo. These are versatile instruments known for more than country; blues (see my guy on my home page), folk and old timey (Gillian Welch used the plainer cousin the J-50), rock and roll, as well as country and western. This one is great for getting on a roll with rhythm, strumming while singing, fingerpicking, or hammers and pulls. Despite its originality, it’s still in top playing condition. It appears to have never had a neck reset, the frets are original as is the saddle, bridge and nut. The action is 6/64” on the bass side and 4-5/64” on the treble. The neck is a very playable soft V, the nut is 1-11/16” with 2-1/8 string spacing at the bridge. It’s an easy guitar to make sound good with a nice round bass, classic Gibson midrange, and bright but not shrill trebles. There’s some wear around the soundhole and inside part of the pickguard, a slight sanding of the top of the bridge, one case bite, a small spot of buckle wear, and shallow divots in (of course) the cowboy chord position. Otherwise, the finish is very bright, clean and fresh. It comes in an orange felt-line hardshell case that is probably early 60s. As always, if you view the pictures directly from my site, rather than Gbase, they will blow up much larger without losing detail.
