Description

Friends, here is an Gibson HG-00 custom ordered with maple back and sides. These were originally intended for map-style Hawaiian play, they make nice fingerstyle guitars when converted to standard play. It should sound great ragtime, blues, hokum even a little jazz. It’s a handsome little guitar that is finished a little differently than the mahogany version. The top is the standard dark sunburst but the back and sides have been finished in the same motif to show off the curly maple.
The neck may have been reshaped slightly. It measures 1-7/8 at the nut rather than the standard 2” width of most Hawaiian setups. The finish is blended so well it’s almost undetectable. It has a deep V-shape and feels somewhat like an early Gibson Jumbo or L-5. There are twelve frets clear of the body and a solid peghead with “Gibson” stenciled white. There is no truss rod which makes the little guitar feel light and balanced.
It’s in good condition with the exception of three repaired top cracks south of the bridge and a tight crack that runs parallel to the fingerboard. The finish is shiny and fresh looking with only a couple of areas where is has worn to the wood. The insides are clean and original with the exception of three cleats stabilizing the top cracks.
It’s fun to play. The 12-fret neck makes everything feel accessible. The frets feel nice and fresh. Overall, the sound reminds me of a more aggressive L-00 with more cut and up front presence. Ships with a newer Martin 00-sized case with plush interior.
