Description

FON 3988 2. Handsome J-45 from 1950 with some touchups and repairs but it sounds as great as it looks. I took this in trade from another dealer. You can still find the other listing online for further description and pictures. The headline on this one is that SOMEONE has given it a dead solid perfect neck reset and setup. It plays perfectly with the original frets and replaced saddle and nut. It has the sound that you want from a Gibson dread – big, open, woody all the other accolades. The seller dropped a name, a very well-known repair person, but I need to verify that before I print it here. The top is 95% clean and fresh looking with areas of touchup on either side of the fingerboard where, on the bass side at least, there was some significant wear. There is a little touchup around the soundhole as well. On the treble side, there is a crack that runs parallel to the fingerboard that has been well repaired. It’s been reinforced underneath with a Martin-style Popsicle brace. The brace is likely overkill but all is stable. The top and sides have light checking, the back a little worming from buckle or buttons. The neck is smooth and comfortable. Inside there is the original bridge plate, two scalloped tone bars, and knife-blade back braces; all as it should be and pretty much the same configuration as the original wartime design (without the colossal neck profile). Comes with a grade B newer hardshell case.
