Description

FON illegible. Here is a banner LG-2 from 1944 in excellent condition and playing shape. It is the quintessential wartime banner utilizing almost all North American materials: four-piece spruce top, multi-piece mahogany back, gumwood bridge and fretboard, poplar neck block, and maple and walnut neck with ebony reinforcement. Despite the Heinz 57 pedigree, it plays and sounds like a thoroughbred. Complete refret, neck reset and setup before coming to me on consignment. The action is low, the saddle is perfect. It is very clean with only a couple of dings, light checking throughout. There is some touchup around the heel from the neck reset, possible exact repro bridge, and reglued or exact repro bridge plate. The sunburst is beautifully done with more nuance than the pictures show. It’s still very shiny with the only significant wear on the east side of the sound hole. The neck is a medium sized “C” shape with tapered headstock and original Kluson three-to-a-side machines. It has a great midrange “bark” with some darkness added by the bass and nice trebles. It would be hard to find a more representative banner in better condition. Comes with a newer hardshell case.
