1995 Talor 855
Almost thirty years old and brilliantly so, this most wonderful Jumbo Taylor is as good as it gets in a 12-string guitar, just cannot be beat. Bob Taylor’s first hand-made guitar, long before he built up the Taylor Company, was a Jumbo 12-string, and he took off from there setting the guitar world on fire with everything he did. With its 17” body, beautifully straight-grained Indian rosewood back and sides and ultra-fine grained Sitka spruce top, the tones that you'll hear, with no exceptions...]]>

A truly wonderful Martin-made replica of a 00-18 from 1931. Authentic Series Martins are built from the specs of a piece they might have in their museum or on loan from an owner, and they replicate the original piece by piece. This loveliest Martin has genuine mahogany back and sides and an Adirondack spruce top, 12-fret neck with 1-7/8” nut width and they got the neck profile just right too, feels like the 1930s for real. 1980 Gurian S3M
In many people's opinion the hippest and coolest size of all the Gurian guitars, the Size 3. With outer dimensions similar to those of a Martin 000 but with a slightly different contour so as to give it a unique range the S3M, with its mahogany back and sides and Sitka spruce top, has got the clarity, the evenness of tone, and the volume that makes it a prime guitar for both soloing and accompaniment. Extremely rare; I haven't seen one of these, for sale or not, in nearly fifty years. This is the original Gibson larger-bodied, high-end acoustic guitar, the early version before they gussied it up with a scroll in the body. If you were in an orchestra, perhaps a mandolin orchestra, that wanted a guitar, and you could afford it, this was THE one. In remarkably intact condition, 100% solid and 100% playable, it is something to hold and to behold. Stamped onto the neck block, way inside and you...]]>

I’ve had several 19th-century guitars made by Haynes of Boston over the years, always similar to Martin Size 1 (“Standard”) or size 0 (“Concert”) with Brazilian rosewood back and sides, as does this one. Occasionally one comes by with “Wm. B. Tilton's Improvement “ installed but I haven’t seen one in at least twenty years, and never this fine and complete. The real deal, original Gibson parts, NOT reissues or copies. I was a Gibson dealer from 1970 to 2001, did their service work for them too, and stocked up on lots of parts; these are just peeking out from 20-30-40 years of storage. Both have UC 452 B underneath. Mint, never used, never on a guitar. Original cream color; can’t find something like this nowhere else. The pair for $95]]>

Most unusual and quite humorous in our book, this never-used set, acquired from the National company probably in the 1990s. For a slotted-peghead guitar, intended as replacements for older and all other Nationals; someone must’ve ordered them from their maker to have no markings on them, and so the words “NO MARKINGS” were stamped onto the ends of both plates. Intentional? Who knows, but they’re perfect and they’re tight and they’re just what's called for, every time. $95]]>

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a set of these that were originally gold-plated, on or off a guitar (maybe on a 1950s National?), but here they are. 1880 Seidel 3 Per Side Tune...
If you’ve got a 19th-century Martin with its original tuners missing, a very common occurrence, these might be just the set for you. Most of the early Martins with geared tuning machines had those made by Seidel, in Germany, though Seidel rarely put their name on them. With backplates of German silver, this set has its floral pattern decorations hand-engraved, as opposed to the usual roller-press stamping usually seen, which should indicate their having been made in the 1860s-80s as opposed t...]]>

~1870 White 3 Per Side Tuners
From that great year of 1874…….or maybe just a wee bit later. H. W. White’s fabulous invention that, far as I can tell from the original US Patent Office description and drawings, was intended to be both a string-locking tuner (way ahead of its time) and a quick-wind and -unwind device for when you’re putting on or removing strings (not so much). Thing is, there are so dang many teeny parts in each roller (discerned from the original patent drawing) that the internals have all long since beco...]]>

1850 Jerome 3 Per Side Tune...
This is one of the very nicest, and very rarest sets of 19th-century Martin tuning machines we’ve ever come across. Made by the French firm of Jerome, these are the type of tuners that Martin was using in their earlier years, from about 1840-1850. This is a no-nonsense, completely original set; the gear screws are quite intact and have never been removed, all of the gears and worms are in excellent mechanical condition, and there is virtually no play in them anywhere. They are in remarkable c...]]>

1941 Gibson L-5 Sunburst, E...
This is a most unusual, extremely rare and certainly unique Gibson guitar, a complete L-5 with the then brand-new “small diagonal pickup” introduced in 1941. The entire body, and all of its internal structural components and its pickup cover, are made from a clear plastic, almost surely Lucite, the brand name of a polyacrylic developed by DuPont in 1936, and which incidentally replaced glass in the Spitfire fighter plane canopies of WW II. The bindings are of celluloid, the standard material ...]]>

1927 D
It is known that John D’Angelico, the most revered maker of carved-top guitars ever to have lived, started out by learning to make mandolins from his uncle, Raphael Ciani, here in the Little Italy neighborhood of New York City, sometime in the early 1920s. D’Angelico of course went on to world-wide acclaim for the magnificent guitars and occasional carved-top mandolins he made on his own, starting in the early 1930s, but an early violin made by him has never appeared before this one. It was b...]]>
