Description

Within moments of picking up this 'Mary Kaye' beauty, I knew I would be taking it home for my inventory. After just a few notes I was on my way to the checkout line. Yes, this Strat has that "something special." Offered is this very early Custom Shop Relic built during the Vince Cunetto period in October, 1996. "Cruz" is stamped on the neck butt. This lovely instrument is made of Swamp Ash and it weighs just 7.4 pounds. The neck carve is a very soft V-shape with depth measurements of .880" at the first fret and .974" at the twelfth fret. The fretboard radius is 9.5", the frets look like 6105's and the nut width is 1.650". For electronics, this guitar was given early Custom '54's, although it appears that the neck pickup has been replaced. (I do not have the original). Guitars like this early Relic make me think that it is ultimately unnecessary and perhaps a bit insane to spend tens of thousands of dollars for a real vintage 50's Strat. This thing feels, plays, looks and sounds like the real deal. It has been played, but it is extremely hard to tell where the factory aging ends and the play wear begins. The frets are also in very good condition with lots of life left in them. The original certificate was apparently lost, but a replacement was subsequently obtained from Fender and is included. It also comes with a nicely aged center pocket G&G tweed case, the gold trem arm, the trem cavity cover and a spec sheet obtained from Fender. Similar examples from this early Custom Shop run are currently offered at prices of $4K and over. Get this incredible example for significantly less. You will be glad you did!
