Description

I've had the pleasure of playing my share of 335-style guitars over the years; from an original '63 ES 335 that an early bandmate owned, to some incredible replicas from builders such as Collings, McKay, Thorn and Yaron. That said, the guitar offered here equals or betters them all. This beautiful instrument started life as a 2011 Nashville-built Aged '63 Block ES-335, part of a very limited run with light factory-applied aging. The original owner of this already fine instrument then sent it to the incredibly talented Kim LaFleur of Historic Makeovers for a complete transformation. As part of their $4K 'RDS' restoration of this instrument, Historic Makeovers gave this guitar: a Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with vintage correct inlays and attached it with hide glue; a complete neck reset with hide glue; a period-correct truss rod with no rubber sheathing; a nitrocellulose lacquer finish, with light aging, color-matched to a vintage '63 ES 335; a period-correct nylon nut; a real 60's era Gibson wiring harness; and finally, vintage-correct tuners, tailpiece, studs, bushings and thumb wheels. As you would expect with upgrades such as these and the $10K invested, the resulting guitar is just incredible. The playability is to die for. The original 57 Classic pickups sound great and the tone is fabulous, with that unique woody bite that seemingly only an 335 can give you. The incredibly realistic finish that Historic Makeovers has given this guitar will fool you into thinking this is the real deal. The aging aside, this guitar and the frets are in near mint condition. If that were not enough, this guitar weighs just 7.2 pounds! Included is the original Gibson Custom Shop black case along with both the Gibson and Historic Makeovers paperwork/certificates. If you have longed for a vintage ES 335 but were concerned about hidden damage and/or didn't want to give up food and shelter, consider this great and quite unique '63 ES 335. This guitar will amaze you!
