Description

I don't often stock vintage guitars, but I took this lovely little Martin in on trade recently. The 0-16NY is a rather iconic model that Martin built between 1961 and 1992. This model's small body and big voice made it a favorite of folk artists Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell and it was later used by Ian Anderson on various Jethro Tull albums beginning with their 1971 Aqualung release. The 0-16NY is a lightly braced 12-fret model, so either nylon or very light gauge steel strings are recommended. It has a Sitka Spruce top and solid Mahogany back, sides and neck, with Brazilian Rosewood used for the fingerboard, headstock overlay and bridge. This guitar has a short 24.9" string scale, a 1 7/8" bone nut and 2 1/4" string spacing. The tone of this guitar is magical and immediately reminds me of Clapton's haunting acoustic tone on 'I Can't Find My Way Home' from the one and only Blind Faith album. This example, built 51 years ago, is in exceptional condition. It has it's share of surface imperfections and clearcoat checking. The back of headstock and upper neck show a few spots of nitro burn, likely from a guitar hanger or stand, but they do not impede play. While I am no expert in guitar forensics, this guitar appears all original and free of repairs. These guitars originally came in a chipboard case which is long gone, but this guitar will ship in what I estimate is a 20 year old TKL case in very good condition and which fits and protects this marvelous instrument perfectly. Various price guides estimate the current value of this instrument in the $1,700-$2,300 range. This guitar is nicely priced given it's fine condition. Make it yours and it will soon be one of your favorite daily players. One great little vintage Martin!
