Description
Summary: Initially developed as a deluxe, two-pickup upgrade to Rickenbacker’s 4000 bass, the Rickenbacker 4001 bass guitar has become a notable model for its long list of famous players. First released in 1961 with production lasting through the very early ‘80s, the 4001 has earned fans in bass players like Lemmy Kilmister, Kim Gordon, Rick James, and Geddy Lee. The extra pickup was added to the 4001 to widen tonal possibilities and up the bass frequency response.

Body: Bound Maple with a gloss finish.

Neck: Bound Maple/Walnut with a Rosewood fingerboard, 33.25” scale length, 1 11/16” nut width, triangle pearl inlays, 20 frets.

Pickups/Hardware: Two original pickups, 2x volume/2x tone controls/3-way pickup selector, single ply white pickguard, open gear tuning keys.

Cosmetics: This bass is in great shape for an instrument from the 70s. It has light surface scratches and small indentations on the body throughout. The finish has started to wear off on the back of the body on the heel. The back of the neck is clean, and the frets show bit of wear but nothing major. The headstock has a few chips in the finish. The bridge pickup cover has been removed.

Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this instrument with a new set of flat wound strings. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. The frets are in great shape with no major grooves or divots from use and it plays beautifully up and down the fretboard with no dead spots or choking out.

Modifications: The bridge pickup cover has been removed (Included in case).

Weight: 9.72 lbs.

Case: This bass ships in a hard-shell case, professionally packaged, and fully insured.
