Description

Offered is this magnificent piece of playable fine art by master craftsman / luthier, Matt Artinger. This one-off Semi-Hollowbody was custom built for it's original owner in 2005 and from whom we obtained this marvelous specimen.

This guitar has a semi-hollow Mahogany body which is 13.25" wide at the lower bout and is approximately 1.75" deep. It has a short (25") string scale, 22 frets, medium fret wire and a 1.6875" nut width. The Mahogany neck is reinforced with carbon fiber and has a medium C shape with depth measurements of .86" at the first fret, increasing to .91" at the twelfth fret. It utilizes an archtop style floating bridge and tailpiece. The electronics include two Lollar P-90 pickups, master volume, master tone and a 3-way toggle switch. The guitar has a total weight of just 7 pounds, 6 ounces.

The cosmetics on this guitar are extraordinary. While primarily built of Mahogany, the guitar is trimmed with highly figured Koa with Brazilian Rosewood flourishes. The body has a hand-carved arm rest and corresponding back contour which are both beautiful and functional. The "Cat's Eye" design F-holes, a feature borrowed from Ken Parker, are works of art in and of themselves and are exquisitely bound in highly figured Koa wood. Unique touches on the neck, fretboard, back of the headstock, truss rod cover and the bridge and tailpiece make this a museum-quality piece which displays Artinger's incredible woodworking skills. Even the hand carved backplate is worth a second look!

While certainly beautiful to behold, this guitar plays and sounds even better! Please check out the brief sound sample included herein. To my ear the tone is a blend of that of a Collings I-35 and a PRS Hollowbody, two instruments that I dearly love. And the playability of this Artinger is as good as either of these fine instruments. To me, a short scale hollow, or semi-hollow electric is sonic perfection.

This guitar was cherished by it's original owner and remains in amazing, near mint condition. The only issues are a bit of oxidation on the gold hardware used for the input jack and the tailpiece mounting. Otherwise, this guitar has no flaws of any significance and the frets are in superb condition as well. It comes in it's original Cedar Creek case, also in excellent condition.

I can only guess what a guitar with these touches would cost to build today, but I'm sure it is at least twice what I am asking for this amazing piece. Make this fabulous piece of luthier art yours today.
