Description

Bourgeois guitars are built in Lewiston, Maine by a very small cadre of craftsmen working under the direction of Dana Bourgeois. They build just 400 or so guitars annually and while they have a decidedly vintage Martin style to them, Bourgeois guitars have their own distinctive voice and are engineered to Dana's own modern standards. You will frequently see Dana's guitars offered on our website as we are particularly fond of his work. Offered here is a marvelous Bourgeois Custom OMC built in 2014.

This beautiful 14-fret OM/ 000-sized guitar has an "Aged Tone" Adirondack Spruce top with the back and sides made from Indian Rosewood wth a venitian cutaway and full hide glue construction options. It has a 1-3/4" bone nut and 2-5/16" string spacing at the saddle. It is classically-styled with an Ebony belly bridge, black and white purfling, tortoise binding, a multi-color herringbone back strip, Ziricote headstock overlay, gold Waverly tuners with Ebony buttons and Ivoroid bridge and end pins.

Dana's "Aged Tone" tops are thermally treated and specially finished to give a new guitar the tone characteristics and look of a well-preserved vintage instrument. Dana's version of this torrefication process is both labor and skill-intensive and well worth the additional investment to those who are particularly fussy about the tone of their guitar. The beautiful Indian Rosewood on this guitar has the look of a far more expensive set of Madagascar or similarly exotic variety.

This guitar is very light and lively, weighing just 4 pounds, 2 ounces. It plays with great ease and is set up with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" and 4/64" at the low and high E sides, respectively. The tone is like that of an old Martin OM-21 to my ear; dry, woody and balanced, as evidenced by the included sound sample.

The original owner took fabulous care of this beauty and she shows little evidence of prior play. It was apparently played fingerstyle only, as even the pickguard is free of marks. The frets show little sign of wear as well. It comes in it's original Bourgeois TKL case, also in superb condition.

A new Bourgeois OM with these upgrades will cost you north of $7K if ordered today. Get this marvelous and near mint 2014 example for far less. A fabulous acoustic, well worthy of your consideration.
