Description

Offered is this superb Collings 002HG 14-Fret acoustic built in 2021. This model is roughly based upon a guitar design which originated in the mid to late 1800's. It is a small body, short scale, 14-fret instrument which will appeal primarily to fingerstyle players, although it responds quite well to flatpicking.

This guitar has a body length of 19-3/8", a lower bout width of 14-1/4" and a body depth of 4". It has a scale length of 24-7/8" and a nut width of 1-3/4". It has an upgraded German Spruce top and the back and sides are made from very dark and straight-grained East Indian rosewood. The fretboard, pyramid style bridge, the headstock overlay and the bridge and end pins are made of ebony. The 14-fret Mahogany neck has Collings' Modified V shape with 2-3/16" string spacing. The ebony fretboard has a 14"-26" compound radius with vintage style Abalone diamond and square inlays. It has a solid square headstock and the tuners are nickel Waverly tuners.

The 002 produces a sound which is balanced, clear and surprisingly loud given it's modest size. Please listen to the brief sound sample included below. With it's small body size, short string scale and Collings build precision, it seems to almost play itself! It is perfectly setup up with 12th fret string heights of 6/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side.

The original owner of this guitar was a "top tapper" and the guitar shows some tiny fingernail impressions near the pickguard, some very light pickguard fog and one other tiny top ding. As indicated in the included photos, these flaws are quite minor and are really difficult to see unless they are pointed out. Otherwise this guitar is in superb condition and the frets show no observable wear. It comes in it's original and mint Collings/TKL hardshell case.

A new example of this instrument now costs approximately $7K but this lightly played 2021 example can be yours for far less.
