Description

Lots of builders offer their take on the iconic LP Special designed by Ted McCarty, but nobody does it better than Collings in my opinion. Offered is this terrific Collings 290 Single Cut completed in 2011.

Specs for this incredible rock machine include: a solid select mahogany body with comfort contours, high gloss nitro lacquer finish and a total guitar weight of just 7.2 pounds; a marvelous short-scale (24-7/8") mahognay neck with medium/fat (.865"-.975") C-shape which joins the body at the 22nd fret for great upper access; a nice dark rosewood fretboard with 12" radius, medium fret wire and a 1 11/16" bone nut; a Collings vintage style wrap-around bridge; Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons; and for electronics, 50's style LP style wiring, DiMarzio 500K pots, Xicon caps and Switchcraft toggle and jack. Originally loaded with Lollar P-90's, this guitar currently has Fralin P-90's installed. The original Lollar pickups are also included.

If you crank this baby she screams. Roll the volume back and she can be a jazz machine it sounds so sweet. Despite it's simple design, this guitar can do most anything and it's built and plays superbly, the Collings way. This guitar has seen its share of play and shows a few boo boos here and there (see detailed photos), but nothing that shows easily or impacts its playability or tone. The frets still look great (see close up pic). It comes in it's original Ameritage case (in terrific condition) along with the original Lollar P-90 pickups. A new example will now cost you nearly $5K.

Regardless of what kind of music you play, this guitar can do it for you, but this is primarily a serious "rock machine." A simple design that still stands the test of time and results in a fantastic electric guitar. Make this cool example yours!
