Description

Many builders offer a version of the iconic LP Special, but nobody does it better than Collings in my opinion. Offered is this beautiful and versatile Collings 290 Single Cut with upgraded ThroBak pickups. This '1959 Faded Crimson' beauty was completed in November, 2018.

Specs for this very versatile guitar include: a solid Select Honduran Mahogany body with comfort contours, high gloss nitro lacquer finish and a total guitar weight of just 7 pounds, 3 ounces; a marvelous short-scale (24-7/8") Honduran Mahognay neck with medium/fat (.865" - .985") C-shape which joins the body at the 22nd fret for great upper access; an ivoroid-bound Rosewood fretboard with 12" radius, medium fret wire and a 1 11/16" bone nut; a Kluson bridge and tailpiece; Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons; and for electronics, optional ThroBak P-90 pickups, with LP style wiring, DiMarzio 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow caps.

If you crank this baby she screams with an overdriven crunch. Roll the volume back and she can be clean enough to used for jazz. Despite it's relatively simple design, this guitar can do most anything and is built and plays superbly, the Collings way. Many working musicians swear by the 290 as their main gigging axe. Please check out the brief sound sample of this particular 290 being played clean through a blackface Fender.

This guitar is in great condition with the only flaws being some very light pick wear on the guard (see photo). The frets look like new. It comes with it's original Collings/Ameritage case in similarly nice condition with the original paperwork.

The Collings 290 is a great all-around electric and the neck binding on this newer version gives it an added touch of class. Collings gets $4,200 for a new one like this these days, but you can grab this lightly played 2018 example for a grand less. Regardless of what kind of music you play, this machine will make you smile. Make this Crimson beauty yours today!
