Description

Lots of builders offer their take on the iconic LP Special, but nobody does it better than Collings in my opinion. Offered is this terrific Collings 290 Single Cut which was completed in early 2019.

Specs for this very versatile guitar include: a solid Select Honduran Mahogany body with comfort contours, a custom color (Pelham Blue) high gloss nitro lacquer finish and a total guitar weight of just 7.6 pounds; a marvelous short-scale (24-7/8") Honduran Mahognay neck with medium/fat (.86"-.95") C-shape which joins the body at the 22nd fret for great upper access; a rosewood fretboard with 12" radius, medium fret wire and a 1-11/16" bone nut; an optional Schaller Wraparound adjustable bridge; Gotoh tuners with ivoroid buttons; and for electronics, dual Lollar P90 pickups, with LP style wiring, DiMarzio 500K pots and Jupiter Vintage Yellow caps.

If you crank this baby she screams. Roll the volume back and the tone is clean enough to play jazz. Despite it's simple design, this guitar can do most anything. It is built and plays superbly, the Collings way. Many working musicians say this is an all out rock solid machine that they swear by for daily play. Please check out the brief sound sample of this particular 290 being played clean.

This guitar is in near mint condition with only some extremely light scuffs on the pickguard to keep me from calling it mint. It comes with it's original Ameritage case in similarly mint condition with the original paperwork and the adjustment tool for the Schaller bridge.

The 290 is a great all-around electric and Collings now asks $5,450 for a new one like this with the optional bridge and the custom finish, but you can grab this near mint 2019 example for more than $2K less.

Regardless of what kind of music you play, this Collings 290 will make you smile. Make this unique Pelham Blue beauty yours today!
