Summary: When crafting instruments designed to be used electrically at higher volumes, the resonant qualities of a guitar need a high degree of focus to achieve some of the classic semi-hollow guitar tones. The I-35 LC is the first of a line of laminate instruments designed to respond acoustically in perfect harmony with their electronics. Voiced for superior response and tone, the I-35 LC features a custom laminate maple top, sides and back and an all mahogany neck. It is among Collings’ most articulate and versatile electric models.

Body: Semi-hollow maple laminate with f-holes. Maple center block. Walnut high gloss nitrocellulose finish. Non-grained ivoroid binding on front and back rims.

Neck: Honduran mahogany. Extra-long mortise & tenon neck joint. Rosewood fretboard w/ MOP dots. Ebony peg head veneer with MOP inlay. 12” radius. 1 11/16” nut width. 24 7/8” scale length.

Electronics/Hardware: Lollar Low Wind Imperial Humbuckers. Kluson ABR-1(nickel-plated zinc w/ retaining wire). Kluson Stop Tailpiece (nickel-plated zinc, steel studs).

Cosmetics: This guitar is in excellent condition with small signs of wear. There is some very light swirling to the body finish. The instrument does have a few light scratches and a noticeable ding on the back of the guitar but it is hard to see unless you get up close and hold it in the light. There are also a few small dings around the bottom horn of the instrument. There is a set of 2 small dings on the back of the neck near the 10th fret but they are small and don't affect playability. The instrument also shows some wear with small dings around the top of the headstock. Nearly all of the wear & tear is only visible in certain angles of light and the beautiful finish of the guitar covers up most of the imperfections. Overall this is a beautiful instrument with striking figuring and a classic design.

Playability: The C shaped neck has heft without being too fat and plays very easily with no buzz or fretting out. The frets are full and in excellent shape. The body follows the classic semi-hollow design, but is sized somewhat smaller; the result is better balance and ergonomics. The Lollar humbuckers have beautiful vintage tone with plenty of bloom and sustain.
